Absolute linear scale features and advantages
1. High Accuracy
The glass grating of absolute linear scale consists of two grating masks, it is the absolute mask and incremental mask respectively. Unlike normal incremental linear scale, the glass grating masks of the absolute linear scale is unique over the whole scale measurement travel. Any slight defective in the grating glass will cause the forced disposal of the whole grating glass !
Therefore, good equipment and extreme careful production process control, skill workers and comprehensive QA procedure are essentials for production of absolute grating glass and it need far more investments in whole production process ! The better grating glass quality naturally offers much higher measurement accuracy.
2. Convenient to use
The grating mask of absolute linear scale is unique over the whole measurement travels, it offers a fixed reference ( Zero Point ) to the system.
The Zero reference is physically a fixed location at the linear scale ( and hence a fixed location at the machine or measuring equipment ), it won't be affected by power failure, any accidental event or mistaken operation. This make sure the user's working coordinate is always refer from one mechanical zero location, work process inaccuracy can easily be controlled or reduced to minimal. The single and fixed zero reference feature of absolute linear scale make it much easier for secondary system error compensation. This make systems with absolute linear scale normally have much higher system accuracy.
